dirt track motor

Postby chevyiiguy on Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:02 pm

I was looking at a 250 inline for my 67 chevy ii it was from a racecar that used to race the dirt track at grandview raceway in pa. My question is would a race motor be streetable and what gears I should run I am keeping the powerglide with this set up. Thanks

It would mainly depend on what you may call street able. But anyway It will also depend on the compression the motor was built with along with the size of the cam. The 250 I had in my 64SS chevyII had over 11-1 compression and a cam with a 583-607 lift to me it was fine But to most it would not have been. See my point.
So more info on your motor is really needed to better help you.

Ok I just picked up my motor finally. I am still waiting for the build sheet but it was run on allcohol. It was dynoed at 525hp and has 12:1 compression. It also has a clifford 4barrel intake some major head work .020intake and .022 exhaust
(Maybe I'm backwards with that) but my question now is can I run the alcohol fuel pump with gas? And if the motor was run with a 650 carb would I run the same size with gas. Thanks for any info

Just rejet the carb with smaler jets. When running elky you need more jetting because it needs twice as much then gas.

Would it cause a lot of problems if I ran the elky fuel pump or would it be to much fuel

I got my motor running and it runs good I have water methanol injection so I can run pump gas. But I noticed when I pulled the intake off that the intake port has been polished but the head bolt still runs thru it. My question is would a lump port kit help or could it cost me power

No it would not cost you power. For the most part it will improve your air flow and gain you some power.

About how much does that kind of porting cost to do with the lumps and all? I want to get it done I just need to tell the boss how much of the house money I need for my car.

I would check all the bearings ,wrist pins,And the cam gear Esp. if it wasn't bolted on to the cam. If it was alum cam gear and it was not heated before it was installed onto the cam It may have and no dout walked off the end of the cam.ANd if this be the case I'd also check all lifters and the cam bearings as well. Let us know what you find out after you open it up.
